77 Rows CIC - Future Roadmap

Our Vision

To strengthen coastal communities across the UK through rowing, education, and the preservation of maritime heritage while promoting environmental stewardship and traditional seamanship skills.

​

Current Status: 77 Rows Challenges

We have launched five active challenges designed to make 77 Rows worthy of donations while building our coastal community. From annual water-based commitments to monthly rowing machine goals, plus a community recruitment challenge for supporters - each comes with free challenge packs and targets £77 fundraising for your chosen charity.

How the 77 Rows Challenges Work

Choose the Challenge that works for you - rowing, rowing machine, teams or supporter. Start with your free challenge pack including tracking tools and fundraising guide.

Choose the Charity of Your Choice

Set a £77 fundraising target for any registered Charity of your Choice.

​

Set Up JustGiving

Create your fundraising page and link it to our team page. JustGiving handles all the donations to the Charity of your Choice.

Find 7 Friends

Invite 7 other challengers to join you. Together, we'll build our community of 539 charity champions.

Three-Year Development Plan​

 

Year 1: Basic Seamanship Skills

Foundation Building (2025-2026)

Objectives:

  • Develop comprehensive seamanship training programs for participants aged 16+

  • Create skill modules covering: Navigational marks and coastal navigation Understanding tides and tidal currents

  • Boat handling and safety procedures

  • Weather reading and interpretation

  • Essential knots and rope work

  • Establish our own certification standards and assessment criteria

  • Recruit volunteer instructors with proven maritime expertise

  • Launch pilot training programs in partnership with coastal rowing clubs

Key Milestones:

Q1: Recruit volunteer instructor team

Q2: Develop training curriculum and materials

Q3: Launch pilot seamanship courses

Q4: Evaluate and refine programs based on participant feedback

Year 2: Environmental & Ecological Education

Knowledge Expansion (2026-2027)

Objectives:

  • Address critical coastal environmental and ecological challenges:

  • Marine pollution and plastic waste

  • Coastal erosion and its impacts

  • Marine biodiversity conservation

  • Climate change effects on coastal environments and ecosystems

  • Establish partnerships with established environmental and ecological organizations

  • Develop educational programs targeting adults and young adults (16+)

  • Create practical conservation activities linked to rowing events Integrate environmental and ecological awareness into all 77 Rows activities

Key Milestones:

Q1: Form strategic partnerships with environmental agencies

Q2: Launch environmental education curriculum

Q3: Implement conservation projects at rowing events

Q4: Measure environmental impact and community engagement

Year 3: Culture & Heritage of Rowing

Legacy Preservation (2027-2028)

Objectives:

  • Focus initially on pilot gig traditions along the South Coast of England

  • Preserve traditional boat building and maintenance techniques

  • Document and protect associated maritime buildings and crafts

  • Create comprehensive heritage resources:

Archives:

  • Historical documents, photographs, and records

Documentaries:

  • Video content capturing traditions and techniques

Educational Materials:

  • Learning resources for schools and communities

  • Engage volunteer historians, craftspeople, and local experts

  • Establish heritage trails and visitor experiences

Key Milestones:

Q1: Begin systematic heritage documentation project

Q2: Launch volunteer heritage preservation network

3: Create first documentary and archive collections

Q4: Establish permanent heritage education programs
