77 Rows Challenge - Safety and Participation Terms and Conditions

1. Acceptance of Terms
By registering for any 77 Rows Challenge, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions. Participation in 77 Rows challenges is voluntary and entirely at your own risk.
1.1 - Definitions
"77 Rows Community" means all individuals and organizations associated with 77 Rows CIC, including challengers, club contacts, sponsors, supporters, volunteers, and partner organizations.
"Challenger" means any individual who has registered for and is participating in a 77 Rows Challenge, regardless of their chosen challenge type, duration, or completion status.

"Commercial Activities" means merchandise sales, sponsorship arrangements, and other revenue-generating activities that support 77 Rows CIC operations, governed by separate policies as applicable.

2. Age and Eligibility Requirements

Challenger(s) must be 16 years of age or older at the time of registration

Challenger(s) must be members of a recognized rowing club with appropriate insurance coverage

Challenger(s) must be competent to undertake their chosen challenge based on their current fitness and rowing experience.
3. Safety Requirements
3.1 Club Activities Only

All on the water rowing sessions must be undertaken as part of a official club training or racing activities

Challenger(s) must comply with their club's safety rules and procedures at all times

Rowing Machine Challenges must be undertaken with another person present
3.2 Safety Policies

Challenger(s) confirm they have read and understood their club's safety policies

Any safety concerns during water-based rowing sessions must be immediately reported to the appropriate club supervisor or cox. Any safety concerns during rowing machine challenges must be immediately reported to the person present or appropriate club/facility supervisor.

Challenger(s) must row within their personal capabilities and experience level
3.3 Weather and Conditions

Rowing sessions should only be undertaken in appropriate weather and water conditions as determined by the club

Challenger(s) must follow their club's guidelines regarding cancellation of activities due to adverse conditions
4. Health and Medical Considerations

Challenger(s) with any health conditions that might affect their participation must consult their doctor before registering

Challenger(s) are responsible for ensuring they are physically capable of completing their chosen challenge

77 Rows CIC recommends challenger(s) undergo a health check before beginning any intensive exercise program
5. Insurance and Liability
5.1 Club Insurance Coverage

Challenger(s) confirm that their water-based rowing activities are covered under their club's insurance policy

Challenger(s) confirm that appropriate insurance coverage exists for rowing machine challenges (club insurance for facility-based training, personal insurance for home-based training)

Challenger(s) are responsible for ensuring adequate insurance coverage for their participation
5.2 Limitation of Liability

77 Rows CIC accepts no liability for any injury, damage, or loss arising from participation in 77 Rows challenges

Challenger(s) undertake all activities at their own risk and responsibility
-
77 Rows CIC is not responsible for the safety policies, procedures, or insurance coverage of individual clubs
6. Challenge Completion and Data Collection
6.1 Session Logging Requirements

Challengers consent to 77 Rows CIC collecting and storing session data including dates, locations, activities, and progress information through challenge logging forms

Session data may include boat types, crew details, equipment information, safety confirmations, and optional fundraising links

Challenger(s) must log their sessions using the appropriate 77 Rows challenge form (On Water Rowing Session Form or Rowing Machine Session Form)

All session data must be accurate and truthful

Session logs may be verified through club records or other appropriate means
6.2 Data Storage and Use

Session data will be stored securely and used solely for challenge administration, progress tracking, and verification purposes
-
Aggregated, anonymized data may be used for promotional purposes and impact reporting within the 77 Rows Community
-
Individual session details will not be shared with third parties without explicit consent
-
Challengers may request access to their stored data at any time
6.3 Challenge Verification

77 Rows CIC reserves the right to verify challenge completion through club records, witness confirmation, or other appropriate methods

Challenger(s) agree to provide reasonable assistance in verification processes
-
False or misleading session logs may result in challenge disqualification
6.4 Charitable Fundraising Tracking

Challenger(s) may optionally provide fundraising page links to track charitable impact
-
77 Rows CIC does not handle the challenger fundraising money, collect, or manage these charitable funds directly
-
All charitable donations must go directly to the Challenger's chosen charity through approved platforms, like JustGiving.

Challenger(s) must comply with all relevant fundraising regulations and charity requirements
7. Data Protection and Privacy

Personal information provided during registration and session logging will be used solely for challenge administration and 77 Rows Community communication

77 Rows CIC will handle all personal data in compliance with GDPR regulations
-
Challengers consent to receiving challenge-related communications from 77 Rows CIC
-
Challengers may withdraw from communications at any time without affecting their challenge participation
8. Promotional Use and Recognition

By participating, challenger(s) consent to 77 Rows CIC using their name and achievement details for promotional purposes
-
Challenger(s) may opt out of promotional use during registration or at any time thereafter
-
77 Rows CIC may feature Challenger(s) stories and achievements on websites, social media, and in promotional materials
9. Challenge Modifications and Cancellations
9.1 Individual Modifications

Challenger(s) may modify their challenge goals with 77 Rows CIC approval if circumstances change
-
Medical or safety concerns will be considered as valid reasons for challenge modification
-
Challenger(s) may withdraw from challenges at any time
9.2 Event Cancellations
-
77 Rows CIC reserves the right to cancel or modify challenges due to safety concerns, insufficient participation, or circumstances beyond our control
-
No refunds will be provided for challenge cancellations as this is a voluntary charitable initiative
10. Code of Conduct
Challenger(s) agree to:

Conduct themselves in a manner that reflects positively on the rowing community
-
Respect fellow Challenger(s), club members, and 77 Rows CIC staff
-
Report any safety concerns or incidents promptly
-
Be honest and accurate in their challenge logging and fundraising activities
11. Dispute Resolution
-
Any disputes arising from participation in 77 Rows challenges will be resolved through informal discussion in the first instance
-
If resolution cannot be achieved, disputes may be referred to mediation
-
These terms are governed by English law and subject to the jurisdiction of English courts
12. Changes to Terms and Conditions
77 Rows CIC reserves the right to modify these Terms and Conditions at any time. Challenger(s) will be notified of significant changes via email. Continued participation following notification constitutes acceptance of modified terms.
